Mark Pfeifle

Mark Pfeifle founded Off the Record Strategies in 2011. He assists governments, corporations, universities and non-profit groups in building long-term relationships by providing superior service and innovative problem solving.

Pfeifle was deputy national security advisor for strategic communication and global outreach at the White House from 2007 to 2009. Mark was interagency coordinator for national security and communication implementation, leading the successful effort to promote the “surge” of U.S. forces into Iraq in 2007 and initiatives to de-legitimize al Qaeda and advocating for freedom, liberty and human rights.

In the private sector, Mark led initiatives to make communities safer after the 2020 killing of George Floyd with jail reform initiatives in a dozen communities, successful crisis strategy to build the DAPL oil pipeline in 2015, for the U.S. Space Command’s X-37 spaceplane, for law enforcement during COVID-19 for the U.S. Justice Department’s COPS Office, sensitive missions for the U.S. State Department, to prepare local communities for potential improvised explosive attacks with U.S. Homeland Security Department’s S&T Human Factor Division, and to fight terrorism with U.S. Central Command.

He leads media training and crisis management training seminars for foreign governments, the U.S. Marine Corps and local and national law enforcement offices and associations and nonprofit and corporate executives.

Mark appears on national networks including CBS News, BBC, MSNBC, Al Jazeera, CNN and Fox News. His commentaries are read in TIME, Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy and Christian Science Monitor.

Mark is a regular contributor and host for Medi1TV’s weekly program “With Morocco from Washington“.

Mark was one of the first advisors sent by the White House to New York City after 9/11, was awarded an Edward R. Murrow Award for radio news reporting, is a recipient of a Polly Award for Best Overall Internet Strategy Campaign and was recognized with the US Army’s Outstanding Civilian Service Award. 

He has held seminars and discussions at universities and platforms across the world, including The Henry Jackson Society at Westminster Palace, at the Oxford Union Society and Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University.
